IN THEIR last game in the West Somerset Bowls League, Wellington A were at home against very strong opposition from Bridgwater A.
Darren Sparks, Nick Channon and skip Mike Groves didn't get off to a very good start. They began to pick up the pace in the second half but by then it was too late and a strong Bridgwater trio went on to win it 19 – 8
By contrast, Jay Merrell, Graham Brown and skip Phil Ellis were on form and played some fine bowls. They won their game in style 26 – 5.
Julian Street, Eddie Dilley and skip Paul Kelly had it all to do if Wellington were to win overall.
It was nip and tuck for the first half and by the ninth end the two teams were level on 8 shots apiece - with nothing to chose between them and with everything to play for.
Then all Wellington's good work was undone. The Bridgwater trio got down to some serious bowling and finished up with a good win, 22 – 11.
The overall score after a tremendously competitive match was a very close win to Bridgwater by just one shot, 46 – 45.
Despite their loss, the Wellington bowlers can feel happy with the way they played.
