ON THE back of a big rugby win the previous weekend, Wellington 2nd XV travelled away to Somerton in Counties Three Somerset South with expectations high.

Welly were undone by errors soon after the kick off, failing to clear their lines, allowing Somerton an early converted try. Welly started to settle into the game and from halfway, livewire Jon Long sliced through the Somerton side to score a try under the posts, converted by Dan Govier. All square.

Next to score was the indomitable Welly captain Andrew Bellamy, who burrowed over from a 10m penalty just outside the Somerton try line. The extras were added by Govier. Somerton were then gifted two tries just before halftime, both ably converted.

In the second half Welly Super 2s failed to execute some of the basics along with an incredibly young midfield and a makeshift backrow, which allowed Somerton to score three more tries in a fractious 40 minutes of rugby. Final Score 39-14 to Somerton.

This side will no doubt bounce back and are looking forward to playing Bridgwate & Albion 2nd XVr, who are just above them in second place in the table with a game in hand, on Saturday, November 30.
