WELLY Super 2s produced a fine performance to run out 43-17 winners in their final away game at Cheddar in the Counties Three Somerset South on Saturday.

The hosts scored first, crashing over for a converted try when awarded a penalty five yards out.

Straight from the restart, Welly regathered the ball and quick hands after a number of rucks resulted in scrum half Brackenbury scoring in the corner and then adding the extra points.

The game then ebbed and flowed before Cheddar kicked a penalty to sneak into the lead.

Just before half time Welly were awarded a penalty close to the Cheddar line and skipper Andrew Bellamy crashed over near the posts, leaving an easy conversion for Brackenbury.

In the second half, Cheddar started with a try after numerous missed tackles, which was converted and nudged Cheddar ahead.

This galvanised Welly into action and it one-way traffic after that.

Bellamy scored another try from close range after Cheddar failed to clear their lines, converted by Brackenbury.

Excellent work by the Wellington scrum allowed number 8 James Mate to break off and feed winger Ivor Hole to score in the corner.

The young Wellington backs were now enjoying the space afforded to them by the tiring Cheddar side.

A quick tap penalty in midfield allowed centre Henry Cavill to feed second row George Griffin to score out wide, before Bellamy scored his hat trick after a free kick was awarded at a scrum.

The last play of the game saw Welly again play a quick tap penalty in their own half, the ball going through the hands, before Brackenbury scored in front of the posts and converted his own try.

A great game of running rugby.

Their final game is on 5th of April at home against Hornets.
