FOUR of the top bowlers at Wellington Bowling Club battled it out in the semi-finals of the Open Singles Competition.

In the first of them, three times champion Nick Channon came up against the experienced Steve Bradnum.

It was a close battle. Steve led the way for much of the time. After 15 ends he was four shots up, 13 – 9. But Nick pulled out all the stops to steal it 21 – 13.

Mike Connor, who has also won the Open three times, found himself 18 – 5 down against Ian Hollingsworth after ten ends. But he pulled back to be just one short on 17 – 18 with two to play.

Ian settled to his work and won the last two ends to pinch a narrow victory 21 – 17.

We await an exciting final between Nick Channon and Ian Hollingsworth on Sunday 23rd March.
