WELLINGTON 2nd XV travelled to face table toppers Castle Cary in Counties Three Somerset South on the back of their great win against Chard the week before.

However, within five minutes of kick off, Welly 2s were behind to a converted try from a Cary penalty lineout. Welly’s 2s hit back from the kick off and were awarded a penalty on the Cary 22. Fly half Steve Mason hit the cross bar with the kick and Cary cleared their lines.

It was all one-way traffic after that, with Cary scoring 36 unanswered points by half time.

In the second half making life even more difficult, Welly 2s were reduced to 14 men due to an injury. Never giving up, Garryn Basson scored a try after Welly 2s were awarded a lineout in the Cary 22, which was converted by Jon Long.

Cary continued to dominate and scored four more converted tries in the second half. The final score was 64-7.

However, this young Wellington side is incredibly resilient and no doubt will bounce back and welcome Cheddar to the Athletic ground this coming Saturday, January 25.

Victory enabled Cary to stay six points clear of second place Bridgwater & Albion, who have a game in hand.
