WELLINGTON AFC’s two U12 teams – Wanderers and Rovers – travelled to London on Saturday to visit Selhurst Park, home of Premier League club Crystal Palace.
Twenty-nine excited boys and 43 probably more excited parents (!) embarked on a memorable day for all involved.
They faced a tough competition against Kent Academy, Marriott Rhinos and Portland United with the Wanderers eventually faced off against Rovers in the Plate. It was an epic battle, ending in a draw which led to a dramatic penalty shootout with the Rovers winning 3-2 before going on to just fall short in the Plate final.
Coach Seb Coe said: “All the boys played amazingly, and we are so proud of how far they have come as a team.
“It was a day we will never forget and the boys represented Wellington with great passion and team spirit.
“Thanks to all the sponsors from back in December and all who attended our Race Night which made the trip possible.”Seb added: “We would highly recommend this amazing experience to other teams.
“With brilliant organisation from Crystal Palace, the day flew by and was very well run with dressing room access for photos.
“They also did the tunnel walk with their names announced as they came out which was phenomenal.“
