ASHBRITTLE have maintained their 100 per cent record at the top of the first division in the West Somerset Cricket League.
However, it was a close-run thing in their latest match against Morebath with the leaders scraping home by two runs. Ashbrittle, batting first, scored exactly 200 in their 40 overs with opener Mark White top scoring with 63, while Callum White scored 37 and Robin Williams 25 not out.
Morebath, who had won only one of their previous games, were 182-5 at one stage before collapsing, losing their last five wickets for only 16 runs. Carl Hooper scored 62, while R Bowden made 58 and Davin Broadbent 32. Harry Norman (3-32) and Andy Hill (3-19) were Ashbsrittle's top bowlers
Ashbrittle have a 21-point lead over second-placed East Huntspill, who won by 126 runs against Churchinford who are finding life in the top division tough going. East Huntspill, batting first, scored 236 in their 40 overs with B Anderson scoring 153 not out, while P Chisholm made 33. Churchinford were never seriously in contention with J Perry (57) being their only batter to make serious runs as they slumped to 110 all out in 22.4 overs.
Champions Kilve were at their ruthless best in beating Brompton Ralph by ten wickets. Brompton were bowled out for 179 with R Chiplin (67) and O Hale (59) being their main run-getters. C Clemenson and T Wilcox both took three wickets.
Kilve's openers Jay Darrell (96 not out) and Pete Stone (53 not out) knocked off the runs in 29-2 overs, with Darrell hitting 18 boundaries, including two sixes.
Stoke St Mary won a low scoring home game against Over Stowey by four wickets. Stowey batted first and were all out for 76, while Stoke lost six wickets in reaching their target.
Bridgetown gained a 15-run home victory over Bagbrough who were bowled out fo145.
Roadwater have a 47-run lead at the top of Division Two after beating visitors Stoodleigh by five wickets. Stoke scored 141 all out with D Rendle being their leading run-getter with 33. P Cole took 4-41 and J Murch 3-22. Cole was Roadwater's top batter, scoring 39 as the leaders took 26.4 overs in getting the runs. K Roberts also scored 28 and M Bolton 25.
In the only other game in this division, Crowcombe squeezed home by two wickets against Carhampton, who made 109-9 in their 40 overs, despite 71 by Luke Milton. Jalees Khattak, Rob White, Richard Baker and Dan Fawden all picked up two wickets.
Crowcombe lost two wickets for only three runs before finally batting their way to victory with Matt Matt Warne scoring 52 and Josh Newman 32. However, it was Jack Lewis who kept his nerve by scoring 21 not out.
