WELLINGTON United gained a fine 2-1 away victory over Minehead Youth Eagles in Division Three of the Under 12 section in the Taunton & District Youth Football League.

Wellington got off to a flying start, scoring after only two minutes - thanks to Sonny Rich’s screamer of a goal with the assist of Theo Keep.

The game remained end to end in the first half but neither side was able to score again which meant Wellington held a slender 1-0 lead at the interval.

In the second half both teams came out looking to score a goal which led to a relatively even half until right back Vinnie Taylor pushed up to get in the mix and found the back of the net with the assist this time coming from Zach Wright.

It gave Wellington a good two-goal cushion but Minehead found a way through to get a goal back literally as the final whistle blew.

This was a good performance by Wellington, particularly as they were away from home. It also enabled them to pull off only their second league win of the season.

Well done to man of the match Harry Newstead and player of the match Benedict Webley.
