WELLINGTON Ladies’ seven game unbeaten run came to an end with a narrow 2-1 defeat at Frome Town ladies in a Somerset Women Football League Division One clash on Sunday.

Wildcats took the lead through a 14th minute penalty from Captain Grace Winter after a Frome player handled the ball.

Wildcats pushed for a second, utilising the wide Frome pitch to good effect with Robyn Stockman giving her opponent an uncomfortable afternoon while Charlotte Ayers headed narrowly wide from a corner.

With 32 minutes gone a momentary lapse in the Wildcats defence led to the Frome striker being one-on-one with Wildcats keeper Bianca Hamlyn.

The striker shot wide, but collided with Hamlyn in her follow through and the referee deemed this worthy of a penalty which was dispatched to level the scores.

The second half was a very even affair, Keeley Coates went closest for Wildcats with a first time shot from a corner, which the keeper just managed to trap with her legs on the goal line.

Wildcats were dealt a blow with nine minutes remaining when a Frome striker was first to react to a bouncing ball to race clear and hammer home, albeit, unsighted by the referee, controlling the initial bounce with her hand.

Wildcats pushed for an equaliser, but Frome managed the final minutes well to hold out for the win.

Wildcats player of the match, sponsored by Mundy Veneer Ltd, was Robyn Stockman
