WELLINGTON conceded a quickfire double to Brislington in a Jewson Western League Premier encounter at the Playing Field yesterday (Saturday, March 22nd).
The sides had met in Bristol only a fortnight earlier when a late penalty gave Brislington a narrow 2-1 win.
And it was a similar story in the return with little to choose between the sides and only one goal separating them at the end.
Wellington had Matt Hesford in charge with manager Richard Cherry unwell and they got off to a bright start, Josh Lukins forcing keeper George Dorrington into a save after only two minutes.
But that was one of the few efforts on goal in a cat-and-mouse first half which ended goalless.
The hosts were given the perfect chance to break the deadlock ten minutes after the break when striker Josh Baker was brought down in the box and the referee pointed to the spot.
Skipper Sam Towler struck the penalty well enough but Dorrington flung himself to his right to pull off a fine save.
It was Brislington who then went ahead after 67 minutes with a quality finish which proved to be the decider.
Jordan Scadding chipped the ball over to the far post where Josh Lewis thumped a first-time volley past keeper Jake Viney.
Wellington threw men forward in search of the equaliser but they found Brislington in stubborn mood, even when they were reduced to ten men near the end as Shea Mannings was sin-binned.
After a busy run of matches, the Tangerines will now look to regroup ahead of another home game next Saturday when Welton Rovers are the visitors.
Wellington: Jake Viney, Sam Pashen, Jacob Shore, Tom Stone, Nathan Byrne, Miles Quick, Sam Towler, Glen Wright, Josh Lukins, Josh Baker, Jake Quick. Substitutes: Harry Scott, Phil Mendona and James De Selincourt (all used).
