WELLINGTON, playing their second pre-season friendly, were beaten 3-0 away by Shaftesbury, newly promoted to the Southern League, on Saturday.

Another useful workout saw striker Jake Quick hit the inside of the post before the hosts went ahead after 36 minutes when a cross-shot was deflected past keeper Jake Viney.

Shaftesbury wrapped up victory with two goals in the final 17 minutes, the first from the penalty spot and the second from close range seven minutes later.

Wellington will again be playing in the Jewson Western League and open the season with an away match against Ilfracombe Town in the Premier Division on Saturday, July 27.
