SOMERSET produced one of their best T20 performances so far when they beat table topping Surrey in front of a sold out crowd at Taunton - and one of the heroes was local boy George Thomas who was making his debut. After choosing to bat Jack Leach, making his T20 debut in front of his home crowd, gave the Somerset crowd an early cheer when he had Dan Sibley caught by Sean Dickson on the boundary at the end of the second over, making the score 12 for one. Riley Meredith struck with the first ball of the next over when he had Will Jacks caught by Dickson. Craig Overton came into the attack from the River End and with his third ball had Laurie Evans caught by Leach making Surrey 24 for three. Somerset had to wait a long time before they enjoyed further success as Sam Curran and Rory Burns added 107 in just under 13 overs when Curran was out for 59. Burns was joined by Jamie Overton and together the pair moved the total onto 170 when Burns was out for 62, caught and bowled by Jake Ball. Overton hit a couple more lusty blows before the innings closed on 182 for five, the former Somerset not out 30. When Somerset replied Tom Banton took 16 off the second over, then next over debutant George Thomas hit two fours and a six off the opening three deliveries; he then took four off the penultimate ball which saw the Cidermen onto 42. Second ball of the next over Banton was out caught by Curran at mid on from the bowling of Jordan Clark for 17. Thomas continued to be unfazed by the Surrey bowlers and a lofted drive off Chris Jordan showed how confident he was. However next over he was caught at mid on by Sibley for 40 which came off 25 balls and included six fours and two sixes, which made Somerset 76 for two in the eighth over. Tom Abell came to the wicket and a single to backward square off Steel saw up the 100 runs in the 10th over. A single by Kohler-Cadmore in the 13th over saw the 50 partnership between the two Toms and by the end of the 13th over Somerset needed 59 off 42 balls. Kohler- Cadmore continued to take his runs with ease and duly went to his half century in 28 balls with three fours and three sixes, in the 14th over. After adding a single to his score Kohler-Cadmore was out caught by Burns for 51 off Jordan making Somerset 143 for three, and with 40 runs needed off 30 balls. Abell looked to hit Jacks over the square leg boundary and was caught by Steel for 30. With three overs remaining Somerset needed 27 runs for victory. Dickson and Gregory took eight off the first three balls. Dickson then hit Clark for four; Clark then bowled a wide to take Somerset onto 171, leaving 12 needed off 12 balls. Amid mounting tension Gregory hit the last two balls of the 19th over to the boundary to see his side to 183 and a six-wicket victory with an over to spare. Dickson ended unbeaten on 20 while Gregory was not out 12.
