WELLINGTON were looking to keep up the pressure at the top of Division One in the Toolstation League when they played away to Cheddar last night.
Clive Jones’ boys were lying second in the table before last night’s game, just one point behind leaders Keynsham Town with a game in hand, after beating Westbury United 5-3 at home on Saturday.
Cheddar were fifth and drew 1-1 away to Hengrove Athletic at the weekend.
If they beat Cheddar, Wellington will be nicely set up for Saturday’s big clash at home to Keynsham.
Wellington boss Clive Jones said before last night’s game: “We will take it in our stride. The challenge is there for everyone. I have set ourselves a target for Christmas which only the players know about.
“We just have to do what we are doing at the moment and not worry about the opposition. We are ahead of where I thought we would be at this stage of the season.
“I will also be glad to get back to midweek training sessions. There is only so much you can say to the players in the dressing room.”
Right winger Jack Bryant missed last night’s game with an ankle injury and is doubtful for Saturday’s big clash. “Jack watched Saturday’s game and his ankle was badly swollen,” added Jones.
Brother Sam is already ruled out for the rest of the season after damaging cruciate knee ligaments in a pre-season training accident.
Wellington Reserves are away to Sidmouth Town Reserves in Division One of the Devon and Exeter League on Saturday while top of the table Wellington Thirds are home to Seaton Town Reserves in Division Seven at The Rec.
Hemyock, fifth in Division Six, are home to Exwick Village.
Wellington side Hatters FC, who hammered local rivals Churchinford 9-1 at home in Division Two of the Keyline Taunton Sunday League, have no match this weekend.
Milverton Rangers, who have won their opening two matches in Division Two of the Taunton Saturday League, are away to Stogursey.
