WELLINGTON Under 9s travelled to Taunton Vale to take on their Staplegrove counterparts on the 3G astro due to waterlogged pitches at both Wellington and Grove in what proved to be four entertaining games, writes John Norman.
With five players unavailable due to illness and injury, Wellington travelled with a much depleted squad against the teams they beat in the semi-final and final to win last year’s cup.
Wellington played some lovely and attractive, passing football throughout the morning that is now becoming as standard.
It was equally as pleasing they showed the uglier side of the game where they closed down, covered and defended as a team.
Wellington finished the morning winning one, drawing one and losing two matches.
The goalscorers were Jack Jorge (2), Rex Beatty, Fraser May, Logan Thorpe and Harrison Thompson.
A special mention to Jack Jorge for scoring his 54th goal of the season in 19 games.
This was also his 100th goal in his short Wellington career.
Thank you to Roadchef (kit sponsor), R&M Motors, Jacket sponsors and once again for the army of parents who supported and showed their class throughout.
