WELLINGTON play at home to Cheddar in a top of the table match in Division One of the Toolstation League on Saturday (3.00).

Both sides were held to draws on Saturday which leaves Wellington one point ahead of their rivals with a game in hand.

Wellington boss Clive Jones was not happy with his side’s performance in the goalless home draw against Devizes Town on Saturday although “it was better than the previous weekend.”

The match was marred near the end by a head injury to Conor Bryant who was knocked out during a clash of heads in the last five minutes.

Bryant, one of four brothers with the club, was taken to hospital with concussion and released later in the night.

The injury, of course, means that he will not be available for selection for Saturday’s vital game.

“I don’t know when he will be playing again - your health is much more important,” said Jones. “I rang him on Sunday and he was not feeling very well at all.

“There was no malice in the incident – it was just one of those things. I was impressed with how the situation was handled, particularly by the referee.”

Wellington stay top because Keynsham Town, who were second going into Saturday’s game, surprisingly lost 2-0 at home to Westbury United and drop back to third.

“We have not had a good January,” added Jones. “Every side has a blip at one stage of the season and we’re having ours now.

“We’re creating chances - although not many - but not taking them. We’ve only scored once in three games and that was a wonderful strike. You won’t see many of those.

“We have now played every team in the division and I consider Cheddar to be one of the best. They think they are going to win the league – but we will see.”

Wellington Reserves’ stop-

start season in Division One of the Devon and Exeter League continues.

They are again without a match on Saturday and are not due to play until the following weekend when they play a derby game at home to Willand Rovers Reserves.

Hemyock, in third place in Division Six, are home to Central FC who beat them 3-1 on their own ground recently while top of the table Wellington Thirds are away to lowly Bickleigh Reserves in Division Seven.

Milverton Rangers are back in action when they play at home to leaders North Petherton in Division Two of the Taunton Saturday League.
