SPOOFERS are the champions of the Men's Indoor League at Wellington Bowling Club. Newbees came second and Bowlsheviks third.

Twenty one games were played by all the teams in the league during the winter season.

The final games were played this week so the top three teams could celebrate their success.

It was fitting that the teams in first and second place coming into the last match should find themselves up against one another.

Spoofers took on their nearest rivals, Newbees.

Steve (Butch) Horrill, John Lane, Rob Higgs and skip Darren Sparks' Spoofers were in confident mood against Mike Connor, Pete Nichols, Ken Brown and skip Nick Channon's Newbees.

Spoofers set off at a terrific pace and led 9-2 after six ends. Worse was to come for Newbees who scored no more shots and Spoofers won comfortably 18-2 to be top of the table and League Champions.

Despite their loss, Newbees remained in second place.

Phil Ellis' third placed Bowlsheviks had a more difficult task against Simon Connor's Hemyock but they came through to win 12-9 which confirmed third place.

Alan May's Cavaliers took on Phil Wiggan's Vikings. Things seemed to be going well for Vikings who led 5-1 after three ends but Cavaliers got down to some serious bowling and came through to win 19-9.

Steve Lovell's Fun Loving Lads put up a good fight against Terry Dickins' Welly 2 but lost out in the end by three shots 12-9.

A back-match had to be played between Alan May's Cavaliers and John Bendle's Hemyock which ended in a 10-10 draw and as a result promoted Cavaliers into fourth place in the league.
