ROCKWELL Green Shortmat Bowls Club were pleased to welcome old friends Trull to the Village Hall for a 4-mat friendly.
After old friendships were renewed the match got underway . First up (Green names first ) Laurine, Syd & Brian verses Carole, Even & Mike. The Green took an early lead 5-3 after 6 ends. With shots being shared over the last 4 ends the Green scraped home 8-5.
Next to play Christine, Joy & Mike R against Loraine, David & Malcolm. The Trull trio started well to be 7-1 up after 6 ends. The Green fought back to be 8—7 up with one to play. The Trull trio fought hard to score a one on the last giving both teams a creditable tie 8 all .
A short break for tea/coffee as is normal with these games, with the Green holding a slender lead by 3 shots.
The restart saw Dave D, Mike R & Bob against Trull’s strong trio Steve, Malcolm & Evan. The sides were level after 5 ends at 3 all but a four on the sixth saw the Green take command and go on to take the remaining ends to record a 12-3 home win .
Last up Graham, Bill & Cass (the Green’s strongest trio ) against Edna, Mike & Davi. The Green took the first two ends but Trull took the next 7 to be 13-3 up. The Green did gain a 3 on the last but went down 13-6. While scores are relevant it's the evening out having a good time that's important. Just for the record the Green won 34-29.
*Rockwell Green Shortmat Bowls Club have been sorry to hear of the passing of Ken Webber. Ken was one of the founder members of the club in 1999. He was a keen bowler who enjoyed his bowls and was still playing at the age of 93.
