WELLINGTON Wildcats are through to the semi-finals of the Somerset Women’s League’s KO Cup - and a home tie against Pen Mill Ladies on April 6 - after beating Combe St Nicholas 9-0 away.

Tenika Goss put Wildcats ahead after five minutes with a well struck volley from a corner with Jess Regan doubling the lead moments later with a contender for goal of the season.

Robyn Stockman slotted home from close range after a Combe defender had failed to clear a Regan cross. Wildcats put the tie out of Combe’s reach before half time when leading scorer Ebony Sellick grabbed a hat-trick for the second consecutive week.

Wildcats relaxed in the second half but still managed to score three further goals, two coming from Milly Howe, her first goals in senior football, while the third was an own goal.

In between, Wildcats played some very good football; there was excellent footwork from the returning Keeley Coates, while captain Grace Winter hit the crossbar with an outstanding effort. Wildcats’ Player of the Day was Milly Howe.

Wildcats are back in first division action on Sunday, March 9, when they entertain Frome Town Ladies at the Playing Field (2p.m.).

Meanwhile, Wellington’s first team slumped to their second 4-0 home defeat in five days when they lost to leaders Portishead Town in the Premier Division of the Jewson Western League on Wednesday night.

Jay Murray hit a hat-trick for Portishead - in the 19th, 48th and 62nd minutes - while Callum Eastwood scored the visitors’ fourth in the 83rd minute.

* Wellington Road Dons have become the second team to pull out of the Taunton Saturday League’s Premier Division this season, following the earlier withdrawal of Exmoor Rangers.

It means that the two teams currently bottom of the table - Wellington A and Minehead Reserves - may not face relegation if they do not improve on the positions.
