THE final of the Open Indoor Singles Competition at Wellington Bowling Club was a closely fought battle between two very good bowlers.
Nick Channon who has won the competition three times faced Ian Hollingsworth who was determined to become champion this time around.
The match was marked by Club President Mike Groves who helped both finalists by providing helpful information.
The game began with Nick taking an early lead and by the seventh end he was ahead by four shots, 7 – 3.
Ian began putting up short jacks which suited him and by the twelfth he had overtaken and led 13 – 7.
Nick fought back hard, using long jacks to help him and by the fifteenth the two were level on 13 shots each.
In the last six ends, Ian settled to his work and pulled ahead to win 22 – 16.
Nick and Mike congratulated Ian on becoming the Open Indoor Singles Champion 2025.

Last weekend, Liz May and June Anderson faced one another in the finals of the Ladies' Singles Competition at Wellington Bowling Club.
Diana Dagg, Club Vice President, was the Marker for the game. She was very helpful to both bowlers when they asked her for information.
The early game was extremely close. Both ladies played very well, drawing consistently to the jack and occasionally playing with weight in order to pick up the jack or move their opponent's bowls away.
After twelve ends they were level on seven shots each. There was nothing between them, but in the remaining ends Liz picked up the pace and moved steadily ahead to take an 18 – 10 victory and to become this season's Ladies Singles Champion.
June Anderson enjoyed the game and congratulated Liz on her victory. They thanked Diana for her excellent work as Marker.
