WELLINGTON Carnival Committee is gearing-up for the town's big night - which is now just a month away.

The glittering illuminated Carnival procession will take place on Saturday, September 28, from 7.30pm starting at Rockwell Green and will see thousands of people line the route.

The procession will go over Hilly Head and through Mantle Street and the town centre to the Cades housing estate on the other side of Wellington.

The closing date for online entries was Wednesday (September 25) and now organisers will be looking ahead to giving this year's South Somerset Federation of Carnivals a great start.

Ilminster Carnival follows on October 5, Chard Carnival on October 12 and then concludes at Taunton Carnival on October 19. In the build-up to the big event in Wellington on September 28, there will be the return of a free to enter Motor Show in the Conservative Club car park in High Street from 10am to 3pm.

Motoring enthusiasts need to book in their classic or unusual vehicles by emailing [email protected]. Exhibitors will be able to get access to the show via the Asda store car park from 8.30am and there will be refreshments available all day.

The Wellington Carnival Committee will be hosting a Family Prize Bingo night at Wellington Rugby Club in Corams Lane, Wellington, Friday, September 6. Doors open to the fundraising event from 6pm, while "eyes down" will be from 7pm.

There will be prizes for one line, two lines and full house as well as a raffle, cash flyers, refreshments and bar.Organisers will be reminding people in the run-up to the Carnival on September 28 to bring with them plenty of loose change - and notes - to donate to the bucket collectors and official collecting carts.

Last year's carnival collection raised around £3,200 which was about the same as collected at the 2022 event.

The Wellington Carnival Committee would love to see that total surpassed this year, but mindful of the fact that there is still an uncertain financial climate.

The collection proceeds support carnival running costs and local groups.
