THE 108th Wiveliscombe Show was held at the Recreation Ground and attracted a large crowd of visitors.

People were able to enjoy an afternoon listening to local music and admire the large quantity of flower and vegetable exhibits, along with art and handicrafts on display and children's entertainments.

Show chairman Kirsty Boutflower said: "We are thrilled that it’s starting to evolve into the show we had originally envisaged and our amazing local community are supporting it by attending in very large numbers.

"Entries were up across the board especially in those sections that had struggled in recent years which was really pleasing to see.

"We’ve so much incredible talent in the area and it’s lovely to see so much of it on display.

"Once again we are indebted to Jon and Millie from the Bear Pub Group for their sponsorship in providing the two large marquees and without whom, the show just wouldn’t happen on this scale.”

The increased entry, most especially in the children’s and handicraft sections, meant that the judges and stewards had a difficult task but with some wonderful displays in all three competition marquees, there was plenty for the public to admire and hopefully plan on entering next year. The art section in particular was strong in both quality and quantity and the overall Best in Show went to John Holland for his stunning painting of a turnip.

A much larger contingent of trade stands reported very good business with big queues for the bouncy castle and welly throwing contest, while others enjoyed the music that played throughout the day courtesy of the Wiveliscombe Town Band, Wiveliscombe Wind Band and also the youth group High Park.

JS Magic & Show, the children’s entertainer and Mr Mommet with his Punch & Judy were hugely popular with children and their parents while the return of Wivey Kitchen and their cookery demonstrations as well as a flower arranging demonstration from Jan’s Blue Shed Flowers drew plenty of spectators.

Kirsty added: “We were once again overwhelmed how well it went this year and I’d like to thank absolutely everyone involved.”
