CORDONS remain in place after crews from across Somerset were called to tackle a major blaze at Dunelm Mill in Yeovil.
The fire service received several calls from concerned members of the public when the blaze erupted at around 5.10pm on Sunday (August 25).
Crews remained on scene until this morning to tackle the fire and make the area safe after all contents inside the store were damaged by smoke and water.
Crews from Yeovil, Taunton, Street, Castle Cary, Crewkerne, Martock, Somerston and Wincanton all attended the incident which was scaled down at 9.30am today (August 26).
Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service said on its incident log: “Three pumping appliances from Yeovil, Sherborne and Martock and an aerial ladder platform from Taunton were alerted.
“On arrival crews confirmed the building was well alight.
“The fire has been extinguished. The fire was in the roof space, which was 30 per cent damaged by fire. All the contents of the building were damaged by smoke and water.
“Adjacent buildings were checked and no smoke or fire damage was detected.
“Cordons remain in place around the building and car park but the public can access other buildings. We will be working with the police to investigate the cause of the fire.”
