WELLINGTON Football Club’s floodlights have been repaired following the problem which caused a match to be abandoned at the Playing Field last week.
Chairman Mike Hall said: “We had the lights looked at and it was not a major problem for them to be put back in working order.”
Wellington’s first team were playing high-flyers Barnstaple Town in the Premier Division of the Jewson Western League on Wednesday of last week when there was a problem with the lights, which are 20 years old, on one side of the ground.
The referee decided to abandon the match - Wellington’s first home game of the season - after an hour’s play with the score at 0-0.
Wellington were giving a good account of themselves against the North Devon outfit who could have gone top of the table if they had won.
Wellington were playing at home after playing 13 successive away games because the ground is used by the local cricket club during the summer and is not vacated until early in September.
It is a problem which Wellington’s first team face every season - and efforts to find another pitch have not been successful.
