WELLINGTON'S newly formed team in Division Three of the Under 12 section in the Taunton & District Youth Football League kicked off their season with a 3-1 loss against Minehead Youth Eagles at Dobree Park.

The scoreline does not really reflect the game. Wellington United created a number of scoring chances.

Wellington made some costly mistakes in the first half and they went 3-0 down, Minehead capitalising, not for the lack of trying as Wellington got through on goal three or four times with one hitting the post.

Wellington dominated the second half with some great attacking football . They were through on goal five or six times and some great link up play saw Harry Newstead scoring Wellington's goal assisted by Blake Mead.

Manager Steve Newstead said: “I’m so proud of the lads, some of whom were playing their first ever competitive match.”

Coach Richard Upham said: “I couldn’t ask for more from the boys; they all played their hearts out in a match that could of gone either way.

A big thank you goes to Joe Conway from Conway Cladding Ltd for the kit sponsor.

Congratulations to Leo Upham for the man of the match (chosen by opposition coach).

The team looks forward to the rest of the season.
