WELLINGTON Reds, the footballing section of the local cricket club, have made a flying start to the season in the West Country Drainage Services Taunton & District Saturday Football League.

Playing their first match of the season in midweek, Reds beat Watchet Town Reserves 4-2 in the first round of the League’s Seward Cup on the 4G pitch at Richard Huish College in Taunton in midweek.

Aaron Hill scored twice, including one worthy of the goal of the season, with the others coming from Luke Desave and Ben Evett, who was selected by sponsor Bernie as Man of the Match.

Reds: Hawkings (C), Desave, Evett, Hill, Leigh, Letten, Lewis, Perry, Sellick, Campbell, Oaten. Substitutes: Derbidge, Fyfe.

Reds, promoted at the end of last season, followed this up with a 4-1 home win over Nether Stowey in the first division with Jack Lewis hitting a hat-trick, with Evett snapping up the other goal and again being named Man of the Match.

Reds will be back in action at home on Saturday, September 14, when they play Galmington Reserves in the first division at the Playing Field, with a 2.30p.m. kick-off.
