IN THE Weekend Triples League at Wellington Bowling Club, Arthur Carter, Monica Carter and skip Alan Every's Skylarks came up against Les Hubbard, Jane Hubbard and skip Martyn Beed's Ninchers, a new team with bowlers who have not played together before.
Skylarks are seasoned campaigners and no-one really had high expectations of the Ninchers, but they started fairly well and were only one shot down after three ends. Then the wheels came off!
In the fifth end Skylarks scored an almost maximum eight shots. They had bowled nine, and eight were nearer the jack than their forlorn opponents.
Skylarks then moved into overdrive. They only conceded two more shots to the Ninchers despite some very good bowling by the new team. Adding insult to injury they picked up another 4 in the seventh and finished off with a 6 in the twelfth. The final score was 27 to the Skylarks, and 4 to the Ninchers.
Despite the big difference in shots won, the Skylarks team said that the score was misleading because the Ninchers had bowled very well all through the game and it had been much closer than the final score suggested.
Everyone congratulated the Skylarks and wished the Ninchers team all the very best for their future games.
