AFTER a narrow defeat in their last game, Wellington Town returned to winning ways in style, securing a commanding 3-0 victory away against Kingsdown Knights in Division Two of the Under 12 section in the Taunton & District Youth Football League.

The team started strong, with Man of the Match and captain Charlie McAlpine setting the tone early by smashing in a superb first-time volley from a corner in the 12th minute.

Wellington doubled their lead in the 38th minute when Travis Wong confidently beat the Kingsdown keeper. Cass Letten added a third late in the game, breaking through one-on-one before slotting a cool finish into the bottom corner, sealing the win.

“We couldn’t be prouder of the boys today,” said co-manager Jamie Tooze. “They showed fantastic determination, stuck to the game plan, and really played as a team. Winning away is never easy, but they rose to the challenge and deserved every bit of this result.

”It was a great way to respond after losing narrowly the previous match.”

Victory enabled the Wellington lads to move up to fourth in the table. They are only four points behind the leaders Watchet Town Wolves.
