WIVELISCOMBE retained fifth place in Counties One Western West with a 31-17 home victory over visitors Penzance Amateurs who remain four points higher in third place. Wiveliscombe were penalised on 12 minutes with Pirates fullback Ben Wragg converting a penalty.

Wivey took the lead on 12 minutes when scrum half Richard Baker made ground with a mazey run; he was tackled just short of the visitors tryline and centre Tom Pearse was in support to score a try, centre Charlie Sharland converted.

Pirates enjoyed a good period at the start of the second half captain and No8 Stan Sommers crossed for Pirates’ first try converted by Wragg.

Wiveliscombe levelled the score with a Charlie Sharland penalty. But a try soon after from visiting scrum half Sam Carter which was converted by Wragg gave the visitors a 10-17.

Wiveliscombe had the edge in the final twenty minutes and added a further three tries. Jake Sharland, making a rare appearance, crossed for two similar tries, out pacing the visitors defence along the top touchline. Sharland converted both.

Centre Will Thorne scored Wiveliscombe’s final try, diving over in the bottom corner while Charlie Sharland added his fourth conversion to make it 31-17. The final points of the game came from a Sharland penalty.
