AFTER a week of postponements due to Storm Darragh, Wellington United came back with a much improved performance, putting in their first clean sheet of the season to beat Sydenham Rangers 2-0 at home in Division Three of the Under 12 section in the Taunton & District Youth Football League.

From the off Wellington showed great movement and link up play to keep getting up the field and creating chances in a pretty good end to end first half of football, with the scores level at 0-0 at the break.

In the second half with a few fresh legs Wellington kept pushing to get the goal, dominating the half until Sydenham conceded a penalty in minute 54 which was put away by Harry Newstead.

This Spurred on the hosts to keep fighting through the dying minutes until in minute 60 Blake Mead found the back of the net assisted by Theo Keep with the game then ending with a deserved success for the home side.

Manager Steve Newstead said: ”Once again this shows how much the lads are improving - well done to all.” Coach Richard Upham said: “I’m so proud of all the boys, what a performance”

Well done Motm Vinnie Taylor (GK); well done player of the match Denny Hayes.
