WELLINGTON'S rugby captain Danny Lee, who has been sidelined since the end of last year through injury, has undergone a successful operation on his neck.
"The operation was carried out last week and was successful," said Wellington RFC's secretary Ashley Colman.
Wellington have been hard-hit by injuries this season and it is one of the reasons they have struggled for form in Regional Two South West during the campaign.
Consequently they go into their home match against second-placed Crediton on Saturday, March 22, one place above the relegation zone (kick off 2.30pm).
"We think one point from the game will be enough to ensure we don't go down at the end of the season," said Colman.
Although lying second Crediton cannot catch leaders Topsham who have already clinched the championship.
The three teams below Wellington - Newton Abbot, Truro and Teignmouth - all have difficult games to play.
Fixtures in Regional Two South West this weekend: North Petherton v Newton Abbot, Teignmouth v Okehampton, Tiverton v Cullompton, Topsham v Wadebridge Camels, Wellington v Crediton, Winscombe v Truro.
Wellington 2nd XV play away to bottom side Cheddar Valley in Counties Three Somerset South and look almost certain to finish eighth in the table.
Meanwhile, Wiveliscombe 2nd XV can make sure of winning the championship in Counties Four Somerset South if they beat title rivals Martock at home on Saturday, March 22 (kick off 2.30pm). Only one point separates the teams with two matches to play. Wiveliscombe 2nd XV have enjoyed a fantastic campaign and have lost only one match all season.
Wiveliscombe lst XV, who are only one point behind fifth-placed Redruth Seconds and are having a far better season than last, play at home to ninth-placed Bude in Counties One Western West on Saturday.
