THE organisers of Banger Bonanza at Smeatharpe Stadium have confirmed the venue will be functional in time for the event on Sunday, December 22, following days of activity to overcome issues caused by the recent storms.

Fears the harm caused to perimeter fencing by Storm Darragh might scupper plans for the last race meeting of the year have been allayed. Co-promoter Andrew Carter revealed that some hasty repair work was required to re-establish security and safety concerns.

“Several fence sections were blown down as a result of the high winds, and a lot of work has been necessary to effect repairs,” explained Carter.

However, while it was the perimeter fencing that took the brunt of the damage, the actual race circuit was unscathed, and the eagerly awaited Banger Bonanza fixture will go ahead as planned, featuring a trio of Banger classes, with huge interest in the Winter Open Championship for 2 Litre National Bangers.

The entry of 2 Litres has continued to grow, and will feature local star Lewis Fasey of Sampford Peverell, the defending Winter Open Champion Kenny Gabriel Jnr of Yate, Blazej Szczgiel of Exeter, Entertainers League Champion elect Shaun Brokenshire of Torquay and David Brown of Bridgwater.

Start time at Smeatharpe on 22 December is 12 noon.
