WELLINGTON Wildcats’ away game against Banwell in the first division of the Somerset Women’s Football League was abandoned with 17 minutes remaining due to a double leg fracture injury to a home player.

Banwell were leading 2-1 at the time with the player being injured in the act of scoring. Everyone at Wellington AFC wish her a full and speedy recovery.

Wildcats were limited to a number of half chances in attack with their back four called into action more than they would have preferred at the other end.

Banwell took the lead from the penalty spot on forty minutes after their striker was brought down in the box .

Wildcats came out for the second half determined to keep their unbeaten run intact and had the majority of territory and possession, but it wasn’t until the sixty-seventh minute that they grabbed their deserved equaliser; Leah Morrell finishing an excellent move.

This should have been the catalyst for Wildcats to push on, but moments later the referee brought proceedings to a halt with the ball in the Wildcats goal and a Banwell player in significant pain on the grass.

Wildcats would like to wish all their sponsors and supporters a Merry Christmas. They are back at home on Sunday 12th January.
