WELLINGTON Reserves are out of the Somerset Senior Cup after losing 2-0 away to Wells City Reserves.
Once again, Tom Hawkings had to step into goal with first-choice keeper Charlie, his brother, unavailable for what looks like the rest of the season.
On 30 minutes, Wellington were forced into two changes as forward Freddie Margettes and player-manager Mark Owen both came off injured/unwell.
The first half ended 0-0 with both defences in fine form – particularly man-of-the-match Dylan Groves and Connor Noble for Wellington.
The second half started better for Wells as they began to create chances, but Hawkings was outstanding in goal. However, on 65 minutes, the deadlock was broken when Wells broke down the right and, as the ball was crossed, it was blocked twice but fell to a forward to knock it into the net.
The game was now end-to-end as Wellington chased the equaliser but this gave Wells opportunities on the break.
With the game now in injury time and Wellington pushing, Luke Perry tried to play a ball back to the keeper but only managed to pass it to the Wells centre forward, unmarked 20 yards out. He skipped past Hawkings in goal and walked the ball into the empty net.
