Hemyock FC are set to launch their new kit this Saturday - but instead of showcasing sponsors, the new team shirts will support the Devon Air Ambulance and St Margaret's Hospice.

After being gifted new kits by local clothes manufacturer OMNITAU, the Devon side decided to promote the two charities on their shirts in the place of sponsors.

Team manager and secretary Sam Iddon said: "We got approached by a kit supplier called OMNITAU who are based in Wellington and Willand and they gifted us the new kit. We said 'we'd love to' and thought about who we were going to put on the front.

"So we approached those two charities, they're all fully on board and are coming along to take some photos."

The charities were chosen because they have touched the lives of many members of the team. In 2015 the Devon and Air Ambulance attended Oliver Croker, the brother of a Hemyock player, after he was tragically and fatally wounded whilst watching a youth football match in Bradnich.

The airborne medical service also once rescued Sam's grandad from the Culmstock Beacon after he encountered difficulties back in 2006.

Sam said: "A lot of us are able to give a bit of a tale as to how we've been connected to the air ambulance. Also our football pitch is a designated nighttime landing site for them, we've got floodlights that they can turn on from the helicopter.

"My mum passed away last year and St Margaret's Hospice were heavily involved in looking after her. They made me and my brother's lives a lot easier during such a difficult time and have done since. They say that everyone is connected to someone with cancer and they're going to come along as well."

The new kit will see its first outing on Saturday April 1 when the Hemyock 1st team takes on Lyme Regis Reserves, with kick off set for 3pm at the Longmead ground.

The teams are playing in the Devon and Exeter League Division 3, with Hemyock said to be doing well and chasing a promotion.
