AFTER being beaten twice this season by VPR Eagles, Wellington United U12s finally avenged the losses with a 6-1 victory.
With a skeleton squad of only nine players and no subs Wellington knew they had a tough game ahead. Utd went down a goal in the first 2 minutess which sounded alarm bells to the management team. But only a minute later Wellington equalised with an interception leading to the visitors first goal sneakily put away by Blake Mead.
The first half was pretty even until Wellington really upped the pressure and made some crucial moves forward. Then on 29 minutes Harry Newstead found the back of the net assisted by Zach Wright.
The second-half started with United playing some lovely attacking football resulting in Harry Newstead scoring his second with a little chip over the keeper on 33 minutes assisted by Caleb Jackman-Hughes.
Blake Mead once again made a key interception and found the back of the net on 34 minutes. ,The hosts tried to apply more pressure but Utd’s defence seemed a little too much and the ball kept falling to the feet of Utd attackers with Leo Upham making some vital runs, moving the ball forward, but unfortunately unable to capitalise despite his persistence on the right wing.
On 52 minutes Blake Mead completed his hat-trick assisted by Caleb Jackman -Hughes. In the dying minutes the hosts kept up the pressure and after a lovely break forward Jack Farrington made a lovely pass setting up MOTM Blake Mead to secure his fourth goal by means of a beautiful lob over the keeper.
Manager Steve Newstead said: ”All the boys upped their game with no subs to use for fresh legs and boys playing in different positions. I’m so proud of today’s result. Well done to the whole team.”
”Coach Richard Upham added: “ All the boys deserved MOTM.”
