WELLINGTON Sunday XI gained a 44-run away victory over North Petherton Sunday XI in a Taunton & District Sunday Cricket League game which was played in mid-week.

Wellington, who won the toss and decided to bat first, hit 128-8 in their 20 overs with Sri Lankan Sachindu Colombage top scoring with a run-a-minute 29.

Saturday skipper Arron Campbell scored 18 and Oli Hutchings 22, while Lewis Sparks was 16 not out. Jake Sylvaster snapped up 2-18 while there was a wicket apiece for Flynn Stuckey, Usama Hussain, Matt Francis, Tom Edwards and Joe Bassett.

In reply North Petherton were bowled out for 84 in 17 overs, never quite being in a position to win the match. They lost their first wicket at 16 and were 28-4 at one stage. And it did not get any better and they lost their last five wickets for only 19 runs.

Opener Jack Pike scored 31 and Edwards hit 26, but no other batter managed double figures against some good bowling by the visitors.

Alex Derbidge took 3-1 and Andy Hurry 3-12 as Wellington pinned down the opposition. Other wicket-takers were Richard Sharples (2-8) and Sparks (2-8).
