WELLINGTON 2nd XI won their last match of the season in championship style in Division Three of the Somerset Cricket League, beating South Petherton by 101 runs at home.

It enabled Wellington, who lost only two matches all season, to top the division, finishing 24 points clear of main rivals Middlezoy, with both teams winning promotion.

Minehead 2nd XI finished in third spot, 78 points behind Middlezoy, while Taunton Deane and Street are relegated after finishing in the bottom two.

Wellington, put into bat first by Petherton, scored 272-5 in their 40 overs with opener Neil Hendy top scoring with 87 not out. Other run-makers were Aks Latifi (42), Paul Short (32), Alex Sparks (31), Alex Derbidge (25) and Charlie Burrough (24).

Petherton, who never seriously looked like winning the game at the Playing Field, were bowled out for 171 in 30.1 overs with Ian Masters top scoring with 57. Sam Palmer knocked 22 and Joel Harris 21.

Wellington’s bowling attack was led by veteran all-rounder Rob Moysey who snapped up 6-28 in his eight-over spell. There was also a wicket apiece for Tom Hopkins, Dan Binding, Sparks and Derbidge.
