IN THE Exeter District Over 60s Triples League, top of the table Wellington Lions played at home on two rinks against Uffculme A.
Mike Copping, Nick Channon and skip Mike Groves found themselves in a tight battle early on but they eventually pulled tough to win comfortably 20 shots to 11.
Roger Murphy, Graham Brown and skip Paul Kelly didn't start as well as they would have liked but after seven ends the teams were level on 7 shots each.
Then the Lions picked up the pace and by the sixteenth end, with just two to go, they looked to be easy winners. They led by five shots, holding 16 to Uffculme's 11.
But there was to be a big twist in the tail. In the last but one end the Uffculme skip played a brilliant bowl which picked up the jack and trailed it back to where six of his team's woods were waiting. That gave his team 6 shots to take them into the lead, 17 – 16.
The 18th was closely fought but the Wellington trio managed to take it by one shot and the game finished with a 17 – 17 draw.
An exciting match ended with Wellington's Lions winning overall by 37 shots to 28.
