WELLINGTON Bowling Club’s players have been involved in two exciting matches during the past week - against Topsham and Tiverton.
The first was at home against a very strong side from Topsham. Debbie Beasley, Simon Spalding and Clive Manning were in fine form and took a comfortable victory by 25 shots to 16.
Phil Hutchings, Lynda Manning and skip Bill Warnett came back well after their opponents picked up a big five shots in the ninth to pinch it 24 – 19.
Alan Mark, Ian Hollingsworth and skip Chrissie Willcocks were seven ahead early on but the visitors came back at them to win 20 – 13.
Liz May, Alan Every and skip Tony Gibson did all they could but lost out 20 – 13.
David Harrison, David Dagg and skip David Beaudet had a real battle on their hands. It was tight all through but the Topsham trio pinched it by one shot, 17 – 16.
In the end just one shot made all the difference because the Topsham club won overall 92 – 91.
The second match was away to Tiverton West End. Suzanne Worth, David Dagg and skip Mike Copping came up against very strong opposition. They did all they could but went down 25 -3 but Andy Copping, Paul Kelsall and skip Chrissie Willcocks fought back on the next rink to win 16 – 13.
Bernard Barnes, Di Dagg and skip Peter White lost 20 shots to 8 but Dave Harrison, Alan Samuel and skip Bill Warnett won handsomely 29 – 3.
Robin Shaw, Andy Pearce and skip Tony Gibson were leading 13 – 12 with one to play but the Tiverton side took one shot in the last to make it a draw 13 – 13.
The final score was a close win to Tiverton 74 – 69.
