THE first of the semi-finals inf the Men's Indoor Singles Competition was held at Wellington Bowling Club on Sunday afternoon with the two combatants being Mike Connor and Nick Channon, two of the club’s most experienced players..
Mike Connor has been a member of the club for 12 years and has won several competitions including the men's indoor singles which he has won twice. On both occasions he won in the final against Nick.
It is amazing that Mike is bowling so well and getting through to finals and semi-finals on so many occasions at the mature age of 87.
Former Wellington footballer Nick Channon has been a club member for 20 years and has also won several competitions because he is an extremely good bowler.
This season Nick has improved on his already very capable bowling ability and coming into this semi-final he has moved into an even higher gear.
The match was very close to begin with and Nick Channon led by just two shots after nine ends but he pulled away in the second half to win overall by 22 shots to Mike's 8.
Nick will play the winner of the second semi-final between Steve Bradnum and Darren Sparks.
