THERE have been some really good games played in the Men's League at Wellington Bowling Club during the past week.

Vikings had a big hill to climb because they came up against top of the table Bowlsheviks. Phil Hutchings, Phil Wiggan, Alan Moore and skip Mark Bond's Vikings started quite well. They were one shot down at 3 – 4 after three ends but the wheels came off after that and Andrew Baird, Bill Killick, Martin Porter and skip Gerry Mangeolles' Bowlsheviks showed no mercy and won comfortably 19 – 5.

Spoofers were riding high in second place in the table but they ran into stiff opposition from the guys from Hemyock this time.

Tony Drawer, Adrian Hay, Howard Barnes and skip Simon Connor's Hemyock side were leading 7 – 2 after six ends but Lewis Burgess, John Lane, Steve Horrill and skip Darren Sparks' Spoofers fought back hard to catch up and make a draw of it 10 – 10.

Peter White, Geoff Stamp, Ken Brown and Nick Channon's Newbees have been doing well this season and were in third place before their game. Andy Copping, Kevin Austin, Alan Avery and skip Mike Copping's Fun Loving Lads were determined to make a fight of it. A very competitive battle ended with a close win for the Newbees 17 shots to 15.

Cavaliers and Welly 2 were sitting close together in sixth and seventh place in the table before their game, so the battle was on.

Brian Wombwell, Ian Stewart, Paul Kelly and skip Terry Dickins' Wellies won the first end but after that Steve Bradnum, Tony Woollard, Arthur Carter and skip Alan May's Cavaliers powered ahead to win by 20 shots to 9.

Bowlsheviks remain top of the table but Spoofers and Newbees are chasing them hard.
