ASHBRITTLE 2nd XI beat Hemyock by three runs in an exciting top of the table clash in Division Four of the West Somerset Cricket League.
And although the Devon side remain top, Ashbrittle will finish as champions if they win their last match of the season - at home to Brompton Ralph on Saturday August 17.
Ashbrittle decided to bat first in their match against Hemyock and scored 212 in their 40 overs with Chris Hill top scoring with 94 with Rob Popplestone scoring 44. Shish Kumar took 4-49 and Yogarajah Pirapthan 3-23.
In response, Hemyock were all out for an agonising 209 after 38 overs with Mark Slater scoring 39, John Hurley 32 and Adam Welch 32 not out. W Holley took 3-46 and M Hill 3-36.
Buckland St Mary and Bishopswood beat Over Stowey by eight wickets at home. Stowey scored 156 after being 113-3 at one stage with Mark Sortwell hitting 45. Roger Hunt (57) and Charith Liyanagamage (51) steered Buckland to victory.
Meanwhile, Roadwater are only 26 points behind third-placed Buckland after they were awarded the points after East Huntspill could not raise a side.
In the only other match played in the division, Stoke St Mary gained a 32-run home win over Brompton Ralph.
