WELLINGTON 3rd XI went down by six wickets against their Taunton counterparts in Division Six West of the Somerset Cricket League, making it a blank weekend for the club's three senior teams.

Wellington, who were put into bat, scored 177-7 in their 40 overs with T Brooks (92 not out) being one of only two batters to score double figures, the other being S Turner (32 not out). No other batter managed to score more than four runs.

S Singh took 3-18 in his seven overs, while J Smith, J Culverhouse and T Hiett all picked up one wicket.

A Fish top scored for Taunton with 81, while M Poornesh was 42 not out and J Hiett made 34. Wellington took 12 poits from the match and Taunton 32.

Defeat leaves Wellington in seventh spot, but well clear of the relegation zone, while Taunton are only 16 points behind them with a crucial game in hand.

Meanwhile, at the other end of the table, Winscombe have a 35-point lead at the top despite losing by 55 runs at home to Middlezoy.

Middlezoy, batting first, scored 202 for eight and then bowled out the leaders for 147 despite a fine knock of 73 by David Bailey.
