MORE than 80 members attended the annual opening of the Green at Wellington Bowler Club. The first wood of the season was bowled by 101 year old Madge Covey who was dressed in her Pearly Queen outfit. She surprised those watching by bowling close to the wood - a natural!

Next came the “Spider”. This involved everyone who could bowl standing with one foot in the ditch and bowling as near as possible to a bottle of malt whisky, donated by a member, in the middle of the green. Seventy-five bowlers went for it and Alan Moore was presented with the bottle after winning the event.
