WELLINGON Cricket Club start their season with a second team friendly away against Bristol side Shaftesbury Road on Saturday (April 20) and a first team fixture on Sunday away against Minehead which will be played at Queens College, Taunton.
The first team, captained again by Arron Campbell, will then play Wembdon away on April 28. Unfortunately, all 3 three fixtures will be very much weather dependent as the rain that has fallen in the last few months has put many clubs weeks behind in trying to prepare pitches.
Wellington 1st X1 are due to start the league season with an away fixture against Taunton Deane on May 6.
The first team will be playing their cricket in the West of England Premier League Division 2 this season. Promotion last season means that Wellington will need to step up to an even higher standard this year, but winter nets have shown that the first team squad has the depth and enthusiasm to hold its own at the higher level.
To support this Wellington have recruited a Sri Lankan overseas player again this year. Sachindu Colombage will arrive early in May and has a similar playing pedigree to Dilly, last year’s overseas player who contributed hugely, both on and off the field, in 2023.
