A Wiveliscombe bakery has been named as one of the 50 best bakeries in Britain by The Good Food Guide.

Based out of an industrial unit in Wiveliscombe, the organic sourdough bakery, Longstraw Bakery have secured a spot in The Good Food Guide’s prestigious list.

Longstraw Bakery founders Freddie Bullough and James Cartwright work closely with the South West Grain Network and True South West Flour to produce a variety of organic baked goods, driven by an interest in regenerative agriculture and sustainable food systems.

Customers can enjoy a selection of loaves, a variety of savoury bakes, as well as some delicious cakes and cookies.

Co-Founder James Cartwright said: “We're equal parts surprised and delighted.

“The list includes a lot of bakeries that we've worked at over the years and have a huge amount of respect for, so it's wonderful to be recognised alongside those more established names.

“It's also great to see so many south west bakeries being recognised on the list, all of whom collaborate through the South West Grain Network.

“I guess now we just have to make sure that we keep the standard high. No pressure!”

The list, announced on Wednesday, March 26, is the product of expert on-the-ground knowledge from The Good Food Guide’s network of anonymous inspectors, plus hundreds of miles covered on the hunt for the best baked goods.

Editor of The Good Food Guide, Chloë Hamilton, said: “Some of the best talent on the food scene right now is in Britain’s bakeries.

“The bakers are the people most connected to their local food systems and celebrating the best of the British seasons, and the quality of craftsmanship outshines the pastry sections of some of the country’s top restaurants.

“The best part is, you can get a taste of it for (mostly) less than a fiver. You’ll just have to join the queue.”
