A charity has secured a lottery grab to provide safe spaces and hot meals for children during the school holidays.

In The Mix Project, which works with young people from the Wellington, Taunton and Wiveliscombe areas, recently received funding from the National Lottery Community Fund to go towards the charity’s MEGA activity programme, providing events and activities throughout the holidays.

Founder of the Wiveliscombe-based In The Mix Project Nick Harvey said: “We are grateful to The National Lottery Community Fund for their support of our work, particularly now more than ever as we support the most vulnerable families and individuals in our communities.

“This funding will support families struggling during the cost-of-living crisis with affordable childcare and providing healthy regular meals.”

In The Mix Project is a Wiveliscombe based charity working to enable brighter futures for young people and communities through an educational and experiential approach.

The charity offers holiday clubs and trips, cooking classes, a specialised SEND group, PHSCE teaching, outdoor learning, and volunteering to name a few.

Part of the new holiday offer will be adventurous and enriching experiences that young people might not otherwise get to access to, alongside education around food, cooking and other life skills.

For their next event, In The Mix Project will be running a trip to Weston-super-Mare over the Easter holidays, stopping off at the great Weston Pier. The trip does have a fee but support with funding is available via the charity’s Accessibility Fund.

Other holiday activities for the Easter half term include an outdoor egg hunt and high roping which are run in partnership with Somerset Council and Somerset Active Sports Partnership in support of young people on free school meals.

All In The Mix Project events are suitable for young people with SEND.
