MP Gideon Amos and the Mayor of Wellington, Cllr Janet Lloyd, joined the tree planting effort in the town’s Green Corridor over the weekend.

At the end of last year, Wellington Town Council entered into an agreement with the Woodland Trust to plant more than 3,000 trees in the 64 acres stretching from Tonedale to Rockwell Green.

As part of the Woodland Creation Scheme, volunteers are taking part in regular planting sessions with the latest taking place in Great Meadow and Marsh Mead, just off Linden Drive.

Mr Amos said afterwards: “I was delighted to get involved in this wonderful community initiative.

“If you can spare a few hours on a Saturday, I know the town council and Woodland Trust would be delighted to see you.”
