The winner of the inaugural Wellington scarecrow competition has been declared.

Taking away the top prize was a scuba diving scarecrow which was judged by councillors to be the best in the town.

Prizes were also awarded to the best scarecrows in each individual council ward, with their makers each winning a £25 voucher to spend in local businesses.

In a statement a spokesperson for the Town Council said: "The results are in and these are our winners of the first Wellington & Rockwell Green Scarecrow Competition.

"The overall winner of the competition is the amazing scuba-diving scarecrow from the North Ward of Wellington - well done.

"Thank you to everyone who submitted an entry, we hope you had as much fun making your scarecrow as our Councillors had judging them.Our competition winners will each receive a £25 voucher to a local shop with the overall winner receiving an additional £25 voucher. We will be posting pics of our winners when their prizes are presented."

Winning presentations are set to take place soon when Wellington's scarecrow sculptors will claim their rewards.
