A captain in the Rifles who studied at Wellington School is set to miss out later this month when his regiment are awarded the 'Freedom of Wellington.'
Capt Max Savage was a pupil at Wellington School between 2009 and 2015, before going on to train at Royal Military Academy Sandhurst. Capt Savage commissioned from Sandhurst into the Rifles regiment in 2018, and went on to deploy to Afghanistan in 2019.
During his time in the force, Capt Savage has been deployed on several operations at home and abroad, and is currently serving as the second in command of B Company, which is based in Edinburgh. During his time at The Army Foundation College, where Max served as an instructor, he trained two soldiers from Wellington who went on to join the regiment.
While at Wellington School, Max joined the Navy cadets, where he found a role model in a Regimental Sergeant Major who influenced his later decision to join the Rifles.
Though the town remains close to Max's heart, he is sadly set to miss out on the 'freedom parade' due to unavoidable commitments. He still returns to town to see old friends, and hopes to make another trip soon.
